TN Local Food Summit
The theme for this year’s summit is “Healing Land, Healing Communities.” Speakers will present on topics related to sustainable farming, access to fresh food, and the resilience and well-being of local communities. Representatives from non-profits, government organizations, farms, and businesses from across Tennessee will be present at the event, and it is sure to be an excellent opportunity to make meaningful connections and learn about sustainable agriculture.
The Compact’s Jack Barganier will be giving a version of our popular “Welcome to Your Watershed” presentation, adapted to fit the summit’s themes of soil health and sustainable agriculture. The presentation will highlight the Compact’s work – through programs like River Friendly Farms and Grazing School – to restore healthy soils on working lands and clean up the streams and rivers in the Cumberland River Basin. These programs help farmers not only to be excellent stewards of their land and natural resources but also to get the most of their land from an economic standpoint. The presentation will also go over what steps individuals can take to protect clean water, from establishing riparian buffers to planting trees.
