Teacher Retreat: Water in Tennessee
This summer, join the Cumberland River Compact for an all-new Teacher Retreat!
This two-day retreat hosted in Cookeville, TN will cover water resources and careers in the water industry. Teachers will explore local water resources, witness examples of human impacts on water quality, and use planning time to brainstorm ways to incorporate the content back into their classrooms.
Activities will include:
Natural Water Resources
- Hike or kayak at a local waterway
- Practice using tools to explore water quality
- Learn about aquatic biodiversity in Tennessee
The Man-Made Water Cycle
- Model ways that humans impact the natural water cycle
- Tour a water or wastewater treatment plant
- Learn about career opportunities in the water workforce
Connections to the Classroom and Beyond
- Explore sample lessons and activities
- Design your own classroom project
- Build community with other teachers during a group Happy Hour
The Teacher Retreat is open to 6th – 12th grade teachers from all parts of Tennessee, and all teachers who attend will have the opportunity to apply for the 2025 – 2026 Compact Teacher Fellowship to receive funding for project implementation.
A limited number of travel stipends are available to help reimburse the cost of travel and attendance at the retreat. Hotel block information will be shared with those who register, and lunch will be provided on both days of the retreat.
