River Friendly Lawn Alternatives: Pocket Prairies and Rain Gardens

July 12, 2025 @ 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
CONSERVATION LANDSCAPING CLASS Saturday, July 12th, 2025 12 - 2 PM $40 dollars; 32 for Cheekwood members The Courtyard Classroom, Cheekwood 1200 Forrest Park Dr, Nashville, TN 37205

The Cumberland River Compact is proud to join Cheekwood’s annual gardening school to share our methodology for incorporating water-conscious gardening practices into residential yard designs. The Compact offers resources to help residents of Davidson County build their own conservation landscapes with the goal of restoring Nashville’s native prairies and grasslands, one yard at a time.

If you are interested in transforming part of your yard into a beautiful native garden, but are unsure where to start, this is the perfect class for you! Join the Compact for a lesson on how to plan for, build, and maintain a rain garden or Pocket Prairie for your yard. These conservation landscapes are beautiful, low maintenance, and uniquely designed to improve water absorption, filter pollutants, and create habitat for wildlife.

Within the class period, participants can expect a 30-minute informative presentation, a short walk to a Cheekwood rain garden, and a hands-on ‘design your yard’ activity.

The cost is $32 for Cheekwood members, or $40 for non-members.
