Environmental Science For MNPS Teachers

Many MNPS schools are including environmental science in their curricula, and it’s having a huge impact on the way Nashville’s young people think about the environment. This all-new workshop is designed specifically for MNPS high school teachers and will be a valuable learning opportunity for those already teaching environmental science – or new teachers ready to jump in. 

With the guidance of the Compact’s Education Team, you will use a place-based instructional framework to incorporate local examples of water and environmental science topics into your curriculum, engage your students in Science and Engineering Practices, and enhance your environmental science course with experiential and interactive strategies. 

This workshop will cover: 

• Place-based environmental phenomena alongside standards-based environmental science lessons that will get your students excited to learn
• Best practices for incorporating Science and Engineering Practices into your teaching methods 
• Strategies to enhance environmental science courses for English Language Learners 
• Curriculum tools like case studies and real-world data sets to analyze that will help prepare your students for Biology
• Planning time to integrate what you learned into your curriculum for the coming school year

This workshop will complement the MNPS environmental science in-service training and is highly encouraged for teachers. Lunch will be provided and additional location details will be provided via email after you’ve registered.

This workshop will be part of a two day workshop hosted in partnership with Metro Nashville Public Schools. Lunch will be provided and further event details will be shared closer to the workshop with those registered.
