Stormwater Education Workshop

Every day, the challenge of improving local waterways and managing stormwater gets more difficult. Local municipalities are tasked with everything from design reviews to technical reporting to educational presentations. As the list of tasks grows longer, the importance of effective and impactful stormwater education can slip to the bottom of the priority list. Yet, stormwater education can be one of your most effective tools to proactively improve local waterways.
The Cumberland River Compact’s Stormwater Education Workshop will provide you with specific techniques and strategies to improve your stormwater communication and education programs. The workshop will focus on:
- Aligning education and communication strategies to your permit requirements and public information & education (PIE) plan.
- Creating specific education strategies for different audiences in your community (i.e., homeowners, teachers, residents, businesses, etc).
- Learning best practices in strategic communication to ensure your messages are effective.
- Putting the pieces together to develop new approaches, with a particular focus on meeting the goals of employee education.
Attendees of the workshop can purchase customizable materials for employee education in their municipality. These materials include PowerPoint templates and talking point outlines that cover an introduction to stormwater, illicit discharge detection guidelines, and best management practices by job class. These materials can either be used for in-person employee training or to create video modules that will help your community meet its employee education requirements. Examples from municipalities that have used these materials will also be shared.
This workshop is geared towards MS4 stormwater managers/coordinators and is open to any city across Tennessee.
Cost of attendance is $200, and subsequent access to customizable employee education materials will be $500 per MS4 program and can be invoiced separately.
Registration costs are fully refundable until February 25, 2026, and a 50% refund is available until March 11, 2026. After that, costs are non-refundable.
