5 years of SCM Inspection & Maintenance in TN: Lessons Learned

March 17 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION for development, engineering, and water industries MARCH 17 12:00 PM 5 YEARS OF SCM INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE IN TN: LESSONS LEARNED Join the Cumberland River Compact and Sumner County Stormwater to hear from Van Oldham (Evergreen Infrastructure) about lessons learned and best practices in stormwater infrastructure maintenance.

This event was postponed from March 5th to March 17th.

Stormwater maintenance helps to manage urban runoff and protect local water resources. Over the past five and a half years, EverGreen Infrastructure has provided stormwater maintenance services across the Southeast.

One of the most important lessons learned has been the critical role of proactive maintenance and regular inspections of stormwater management features. By addressing issues before they escalate into costly repairs or system failures, timely upkeep helps to preserve the integrity of stormwater infrastructure.

Preventing infrastructure deterioration not only saves municipalities and property owners significant amounts of money, but also reduces the frequency and severity of flooding events, which can have long-term consequences for both communities and the environment. This presentation, led by Van Oldham with Evergreen Infrastructure, will cover:

  • Real-world case studies to illustrate both successful strategies and common pitfalls in stormwater system maintenance across a variety of settings
  • Guidance on the specific maintenance and inspection needs for various types of SCMs, including bioretention systems, permeable pavements, detention basins, and proprietary devices
  • Insights into how to plan for long-term maintenance during the design phase

Stormwater management is a dynamic and multifaceted field that requires a combination of technical expertise, regular monitoring, and a comprehensive understanding of local conditions and infrastructure needs. By incorporating these practices into day-to-day operations, municipalities, property owners, and businesses can ensure that stormwater systems remain effective, resilient, and environmentally beneficial for years to come.

This presentation is part of the Cumberland River Compact’s professional education training series, which promotes best practices and innovative approaches in stormwater. The presentation is ideal for contractors, developers, stormwater professionals, and engineers. Professional development hour (PDH) certificates are available for all attendees.

Van Oldham is a professional engineer and owner of Evergreen Infrastructure, which specializes in the ongoing inspection service of stormwater infrastructure to ensure high-functioning and compliant systems. Van has a background in Civil Engineering and received his degree from Tennessee Tech University.
