(FULL!) Rain Garden Upkeep at Millersville Elementary

Help the Compact maintain a rain garden at Millersville Elementary STEM School in Goodlettsville! Tasks will include weeding, mulching, and moving small stones.
What is a rain garden? Rain gardens are a natural and beautiful way to reduce and clean stormwater. They are shallow, depressed gardens designed to collect rainwater and allow it time to filter into the ground. This helps to prevent polluted stormwater from entering nearby creeks, rivers, and lakes and results in less water entering our storm systems. Protect Sumner County streams by helping us maintain this important rain garden!
What to Bring & Wear:
- Clothing and shoes that can get dirty. Don’t forget to dress for the weather!
- A hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun.
- Reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and snacks if needed.
What We Provide:
- All planting supplies, including gloves, shovels, rakes, and mulch. If you plan to bring your own gloves and/or small shovel, please label it.
- Guidance on how to care for the rain garden and introduction to green infrastructure, including rain gardens.
Volunteer Requirements:
- Registration on VolunteerHub is required.
- Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but must be capable of bending, squatting, and digging. This is a family-friendly event! A parent or guardian must sign a waiver for anyone under 18. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
- If you are volunteering to receive credit for service hours, please bring necessary documentation from your school or organization for one of our staff members to sign at the end of the event.
