Maximizing the Stormwater Benefits of Urban Trees

Attend this presentation led by the Cumberland River Compact to dive into the technical components of incorporating trees into stormwater management.

Trees are increasingly becoming a vital part of effective stormwater management. This presentation provides a technical overview of how urban trees function as critical components of green stormwater infrastructure. Topics covered will include the physiological roles of trees within the urban hydrological cycle and the functional traits of trees that influence stormwater management. Attendees will gain insight into incorporating trees into stormwater design frameworks, including strategies to optimize canopy coverage.    

Jason Sprouls is the Urban Waters Program Manager at the Compact; he oversees programs such as Root Nashville and the Compact’s Depave initiative. He has a master’s degree in forestry with a concentration in urban forestry and a graduate certificate in watershed management from Virginia Tech.

This presentation is part of the Cumberland River Compact’s professional education training series, which promotes best practices and innovative approaches for contractors, developers, and stormwater professionals.
