Donuts & Depave

Enjoy a sweet treat or two while observing and learning as the Cumberland River Compact’s latest Depave project breaks ground on the corner of Riverside Drive and McGavock Pike in East Nashville’s Riverside Village – right outside of Dose Coffee. Knowledgeable Compact staff will have a table set up to answer your questions about the project and how it ties back to our organization’s mission of promoting clean and abundant water for everyone in the Cumberland River basin. Depending on when you arrive, you’ll get to witness asphalt cutting, removal, soil spreading, and/or tree planting. Shortbread and hot coffee, graciously donated by Dose, will be provided while supplies last. 

If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to complete a Depave project, this is your opportunity to speak directly to the people behind the effort. Show up any time between 9 AM – 10 AM to chat with us! No registration is required. Please note that this is not a volunteer opportunity, but is instead an opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at some of the important work the Compact completes when we’re not out cleaning streams or planting trees. 

This Depave project is a collaboration between the Cumberland River Compact and Garney Construction to remove unwanted asphalt and replace it with green space for the community to enjoy. Depaving even a modest part of a large paved area can have outsized benefits for water quality, biodiversity, and community well-being. This project will help mitigate the frequency of problems like potholes, flash flooding, and water damage to businesses and homes in East Nashville.
