River Friendly Farm Certification

Become a certified River Friendly Farm

If you’re passionate about conservation and looking to join a community of farmers who are going the extra mile to ensure the health of our soil, our water, and our future – we encourage you to apply to become a certified River Friendly Farm.

Through certification, River Friendly Farmers can showcase their commitment to stewardship, differentiate their products, strengthen their brand, and support credible claims for environmental responsibility to their consumers.

Certification Process

Your application and practices will be reviewed and verified by the Cumberland River Compact and an agricultural conservation expert, such as your county’s District Conservationist with National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) or Soil & Water Conservation District. After reviewing the application and conducting a farm visit, certification is either granted or placed under review for future certification.

If your farm is not quite to River Friendly standards, we work hand-in-hand with you to achieve the conservation benchmarks necessary to receive certification. Our goal is to help every farmer improve soil health and water quality on their farm. Once you receive notice of certification, a trove of marketing benefits are open to you. Certification lasts three years and can be easily renewed by contacting our Working Lands division through info@cumberlandrivercompact.org.
