Valentine’s River Walk & Talk: Streamside Salamanders in Sumner County

Love is in the air! It’s breeding season for the state endangered streamside salamander, meaning these adorable palm-sized amphibians are currently at their most active. Bring your special someone along and explore a local stream alongside the Cumberland River Compact and streamside salamander expert David Withers with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. In this walk and talk, you will learn about these fascinating critters, how to protect them, and (most likely) have the chance to look at a few up close.
This unique Valentine’s date (or friend date, or family activity!) will be a hit with any fans of the outdoors, biology, or cute creepy-crawlies! Registration is required.
This experience is free and open to the public, and appropriate for guests of all ages and knowledge levels. All we ask is that you please register below for every member in your party. Further event details and weather updates will be sent only to those registered. Participants will be expected to walk in and along a shallow stream, so please wear waterproof boots and bring your own water bottle.
