Across the Cumberland River basin, streams are blocked by dams and other barriers resulting in one of the greatest threats to aquatic biodiversity and water quality. These obstructions block aquatic migrations, alter habitat, and impact water quality. In this presentation, we will hear from Rob Bullard with the The Nature Conservancy about the impact of dams across our state. Then Jed Grubbs with the Cumberland River Compact will share about our recent dam removals projects in the Mill Creek watershed that restored free flow to roughly 28 miles of stream. For the first time in over one hundred years, Mill Creek and its tributaries are flowing freely.
