Dry Branch Wetland Cleanup

April 28, 2025 @ 10:00 AM
DRY BRANCH WETLAND CLEANUP APRIL 28 10AM-12PM Celebrate Franklin Water Week with the Compact at a cleanup of the Dry Branch wetland!

Celebrate Water Week in Franklin by cleaning up the Dry Branch Storm Water Basin with the Cumberland River Compact! This basin-shaped urban wetland collects and absorbs stormwater runoff, reducing flash flooding in nearby areas. Unfortunately, it does its job so well that it also collects an abundance of trash in the process. Help us give this beautiful park a refresh!

Dry Branch is in the Harpeth River watershed. Your participation in this cleanup will make a positive impact on the health of the Harpeth River, which is an important tributary to the Cumberland River.

What to Bring & Wear:

  • Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes that can get wet or dirty. If you have tall waterproof boots, like Muck Boots or waders, we encourage you to bring them!
  • A hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. Be sure to dress for the weather!
  • Reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and snacks if needed.

What We Provide:

  • Gloves, litter grabbers, trash bags, and all necessary cleanup materials.
  • A brief educational talk about water conservation and the importance of protecting and supporting wetlands to prevent flooding and promote clean water.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Registration on VolunteerHub is required to participate
  • Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome. A parent or guardian must sign a waiver for anyone under 18. Young children must be accompanied by an adult. The nature and location of this cleanup site makes this a great opportunity for families and young kids!
  • If you are volunteering to receive credit for service hours, please bring necessary documentation from your school or organization for one of our staff members to sign at the end of the event.
