Conservation Landscaping 101
Interested in learning how to use native plants in your own yard? Join the Compact at the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center to learn more about pocket prairies and rain gardens! This informative talk will cover the benefits of landscaping with native wildflowers and grasses, how and when to plant and maintain them, and ways the Compact can assist homeowners with native plant landscaping.
Compared to turf grass, native plants like purple asters, coneflowers, and black-eyed susans have deeper roots that are better suited for absorbing and filtering pollutants from stormwater. By building a rain garden or pocket prairie in your yard, you can improve the health of local water resources, provide habitat for beneficial wildlife, and restore some of Tennessee’s natural beauty!
The Cumberland River Compact supports the construction of pocket prairies and rain gardens for Davidson County residents. We provide the knowledge and resources to get you started, plus a maintenance plan to help you keep your garden thriving. To learn more, please join us on April 25th at Shelby Bottoms Nature Center.
