Best Practices for the Maintenance of Detention and Bioretention Areas

Stormwater Control Measures (SCMs), like detention ponds and bioretention areas, are vital tools for preserving the health of waterways in the wake of new development in Sumner County. You’re invited to a presentation focused on the maintenance of these SCMs to ensure compliance and improve water quality.

Facilitated by the Sumner County Stormwater Department and the Cumberland River Compact, and led by Van Oldham from Evergreen Infrastructure, the presentation will cover techniques for proper maintenance, requirements for compliance, and proper schedules for both detention ponds and bioretention. 

This presentation is part of the Cumberland River Compact’s professional education training series, which promotes best practices and innovative approaches in stormwater. The presentation is ideal for contractors, developers, stormwater professionals, and engineers, as well as HOAs and other residents who maintain stormwater control measures.

Van Oldham is a professional engineer and owner of Evergreen Infrastructure, which specializes in the ongoing inspection service of stormwater infrastructure to ensure high-functioning and compliant systems. Van has a background in Civil Engineering and received his degree from Tennessee Tech University.
