Adaptable. Fit. Successful. These descriptors might frequently describe top-level athletes across multiple sports and countries. However, they also describe populations of other living organisms that have achieved long-term survival in their respective habitats. In this activity, we’ll explore variations among individuals of the same species and use science talk to discuss how those advantages can promote continued success through survival and reproduction.

This lesson was originally written for 5th grade. With modification, this lesson could apply to LS4 standards in 3rd, 7th, and 8th grades.
