Clean, fresh water is important for all life on earth. Humans use fresh water from rivers, reservoirs, and groundwater to supply homes, businesses, schools, and industry. Plants, animals, and plants, animals, and other living things need fresh water to live. When water becomes polluted, it can no longer serve all these purposes.

This section includes the “Filtering Water, Naturally” lesson plan where students will:

  1. Connect the water that we drink with the watershed and water cycle.
  2. Connect the amount of pollution in our water with the amount of energy it takes to filter and clean water at the water utility plant.
  3. Understand that maintaining natural systems is a key part of keeping our water clean.
