Exploring Tennessee’s Biodiversity

Grade levels: Ecology

Topics: Ecosystems and Biodiversity

Languages: English

Interdisciplinary: Yes

Disciplinary Core Idea
LS2:  Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics

Tennessee is home to amazing biodiversity! This is especially true in our freshwater ecosystems.  Streams and rivers in Tennessee are like “underwater rainforests” and are home to countless species. In this lesson students will be introduced to Tennessee biodiversity and will investigate a species of their choosing. Students will produce a research report that explores the species’ adaptations to their environment and how current ecosystem changes may threaten the species.

Interdisciplinary with English Language Arts.
