Terra Firma: A Six-Session Course to Build Your Farm Business on Solid Ground

OVERVIEW

This six-part series hosted by The Cumberland River Compact will bring together experts and farmers nationally and from our region to teach Beginning farmers how to better manage their farm businesses. Farmers! Sharpen your business acumen with a deep dive into whole farm planning; financial management and record keeping; project and team management; creating positive labor experiences; and accessing grants, loans, and farmer-friendly financial services.

TIME AND LOCATION DETAILS

Class will meet from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on January 9, 16, 23, 30, February 6 and 13 at The Nashville Food Project, 5904 California Ave, Nashville, TN 37209.

STUDENT FARMERS

The farmers who will glean the most from this course are those with one to ten years of managerial or leadership experience. Such experience might include managing a field/crop plan, keeping the books for a farm, or leading a crew. Students will work with their own data and experiences.

STIPEND AVAILABILITY

A limited number of $500 stipends will be given to farmers with demonstrated need. Historically underserved farmers and ranchers (as defined by the USDA) will be given priority. However, any farmer who may need assistance with travel, childcare, or other costs to make attendance feasible is encouraged to apply for the stipend.
