Updates on the Piccadilly Square HOA stream restoration
The Cumberland River Compact is pleased to provide an update on the stream restoration project at the Piccadilly Square HOA common area. The Compact is a water conservation nonprofit working to improve water quality across the region by partnering with local communities like yours.
This stream project addresses issues stemming from two ponds located on common property northeast of Billingsgate Road. Over time, the dams that were added to the stream were damaged. Now, both ponds have filled with dirt, resulting in stagnant water pooling near homes. The restoration project brings back a free-flowing stream by removing the two dams and replanting the habitat on either side of the stream.
The final steps in the restoration project will start in June and last approximately four weeks. During this time, equipment will be on site to remove the final remnants of the dam structure and transport the materials off-site. Additionally, the construction crews will create new habitats by adding small rocks to the stream and planting the edges of the waterway with a seed mix of flowering plants and grasses. During this construction phase, the Compact will be out on site regularly to monitor the work. After construction concludes this summer, the Compact will return in the fall of 2026 to plant more trees and shrubs along the stream. Our staff will also conduct annual monitoring visits to make sure the stream habitat continues to thrive.

Este proyecto aborda problemas derivados de dos estanques ubicados en la propiedad común, al noreste de Billingsgate Road. Con el tiempo, las represas construidas en el arroyo se deterioraron. Actualmente, ambos estanques se han llenado de sedimentos, lo que ha provocado la acumulación de agua estancada cerca de las viviendas. Las etapas finales del proyecto comenzarán en junio y tendrán una duración aproximada de cuatro semanas.
