No Mow Month 2026

This April, the Cumberland River Compact is encouraging residents of Davidson County to give their mowers a rest and let their grass grow! By participating in No Mow Month, you can improve water absorption in your neighborhood, reduce pollution, cut carbon emissions, and create habitat for wildlife.
Participants will receive a No Mow Month yard sign to display in their yard for the month of April.
Traditionally manicured lawns don’t absorb enough water during peak rainfall events. Instead, this water flows over the ground as runoff, carrying dirt, litter, oil, pet waste, fertilizer, and other pollutants into nearby streams and rivers.
When grass is allowed to grow taller, its roots grow deeper, absorbing more rainwater and filtering out more pollutants. Even just a month of not mowing will reduce erosion and runoff in your yard while replenishing our groundwater supply, helping to keep streams alive during drought periods.
Sign up for No Mow Month and pledge to let your grass grow! Registration is open until March 27, 2026; you must register by this day to receive a yard sign and be counted toward the 2026 total of participating yards.
Registration for No Mow Month is now closed.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How will I receive my No Mow Month Yard Sign?
If you sign up with a Davidson County address, a No Mow Month yard sign will be delivered to your house at the end of March/beginning of April. More details will be provided after registration.
Will I be fined by Metro Codes if I let my grass grow tall?
No! The Compact is partnering with Metro Nashville on this project; as long as residents keep their grass below 12 inches in height and visibly display their No Mow Month signs in their yards, they will be in compliance with Metro’s High Grass and Weeds code.
Residents are encouraged to check HOA guidelines to ensure compliance with additional neighborhood regulations.
What do I do at the end of No Mow Month?
When it’s time to mow your grass at the end of April, have a weed eater handy for the first pass. The grass may be too long for your mower to handle.
Your No Mow Month sign will be collected from your yard during the last week of April. Please place the sign in a visible location near the street for easy collection.
Do I have to let my whole lawn grow?
Nope! If you’re apprehensive about letting all of your grass get long, try starting with a small section of your yard– perhaps near a downspout, at the bottom of your driveway, or wherever a lot of rainwater tends to accumulate.
What if I am not a resident of Davidson County, but still want to participate?
You’re welcome to participate in this April’s No Mow Month event as a non-Davidson County resident. Signs are $10 for out-of-county participants, and you must pick up your sign from Compact staff at a designated location in late March. Please complete the registration form to reserve your sign; more details will be provided after registration.
What if I still have a No Mow Month sign leftover from another year?
You’re welcome to reuse your existing sign. However, we ask that you still register using the form below (just check the “I already have a sign” box) so your No Mow efforts can be counted toward the 2026 total of participating yards.
