Kayak Cleanup with Cumberland Kayak & Adventure Company

June 13 @ 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Paddle down Nashville’s most iconic natural feature with the Compact and Cumberland Kayak & Adventure Company! We’ll be removing trash from the Cumberland River starting at the Shelby Park boat ramp on the second Thursday of every month, May through September.

At these monthly cleanup events, volunteers will paddle along one of Nashville’s most iconic kayaking routes, all the while removing trash from the banks of the Cumberland River and the mouth of Mill Creek.

No kayak? No problem! The Compact and Cumberland Kayak will provide kayaks, and first-time paddlers are welcome. If you prefer to bring your own kayak, please email so we can keep slots open for other volunteers. All participants, whether bringing a kayak or using one of ours, MUST register on VolunteerHub to guarantee a spot.

Please wear clothes you can get wet and dirty, and shoes that adequately protect your feet (no flip flops!). Make sure to bring a water bottle and sunscreen. All children and teenagers under 18 must be accompanied on the water by a parent or guardian. Those 13 and over can paddle their own boat at the discretion of a guardian, but those under 13 are required to share a tandem boat with an adult. Children under 10 must have previous paddling experience. Registration on VolunteerHub is required to reserve a kayak. All cleanup supplies will be provided for participants.

The Cumberland River Compact’s kayak cleanups are our most popular volunteer opportunity! If you missed the window to register for this kayak cleanup, be sure to sign-up for our Volunteer Newsletter to keep up with future volunteer events. More events to be added for late summer/early fall. Plus, you can always support our partners, Cumberland Kayak & Adventure Company, by joining them for one of their kayaking or hiking excursions.
