The Cumberland River basin is a huge region, stretching nearly 18,000 square miles. It is home to nearly 2.5 million people and all or portions of over 70 Tennessee and Kentucky counties. It is also home to thousands of plant and animal species and over 22,000 miles of streams and rivers. Use the maps below to nd out if you live in the basin or to simply explore! The Cumberland River basin is made up of 14 major watersheds.

Water Quality in the Cumberland River Basin There are nearly 22,300 miles of streams and rivers in the Cumberland River basin. Within the basin, the states of Tennessee and Kentucky report that just over 3,100 miles are impaired. The most common impairments are sediment, bacteria, and nutrients. The most common sources of impairment are agriculture, urban stormwater runoff, and mining.
